Happy New Year!
October 2006
December 2006
Our most important announcement for the new year is that we have a new instructor team on Briland. In late December we welcomed Gersh and Emi back to the shop - this time to run the shop rather than as diving guests!

Gersh has been coming to Harbour Island since 1986, when he came out on vacation to visit close family friends who had just bought Royal Termite in Dunmore Town. For him,"coming to work at Ocean Fox is almost like coming home". (For those of you out there who were hopeful that with Andy moving down to Cotton Bay the British reign over Ocean Fox was over, you're out of luck: Gersh hails from England too. For the disappointed among you, you may find some solace in the fact that Jef remains the titular head...or not!) Gersh's career has taken some sharp turns on the way to becoming a dive instructor: he trained as a drama teacher, then spent 6 years as an actor, followed by 20 years in investment banking, management consultancy, and then running his own company - only at age 45 did he think about becoming a diving instructor! Since embarking on the diving career path that would eventually bring him back to Ocean Fox, Gersh has lived and worked in the Whitsunday Islands, Australia, England, Bonaire, Jamaica, and Saba. Indeed, Gersh was happily ensconced in Saba, Netherland Antilles, sharing a wonderful life with Emi, when Jef called him with a very tempting offer. In Gersh's words, "the opportunity to live on Harbour Island and work with my old friend Jef was another adventure waiting to happen - and, as Emi says, 'here we are!'"

Emi brings some welcome (and, some might say, much-needed!) cultural and linguistic diversity to Ocean Fox. Born to French parents and raised in Berne, the German part of Switzerland, Emi speaks a number of languages, including English, French, German, Swiss-German, Italian, and Spanish. After finishing Hotel and Catering School in Swtizerland in '05, Emi decided to go off and see the world for a couple of years. Having learned to dive in Thailand the year before, she was keen to get diving again. Landing on Saba, she was quickly back in the water, and soon graduated from 'dive tourist' to divemaster and then on to instructor training after joining the shop at which Gersh worked. The rest, as they say, is history!

Emi and Gersh look forward to welcoming you (back) to Ocean Fox, and we are sure you will enjoy diving with them as much as we do!
